ST THOMAS MORE TRUST PRAYER SUPPORT TEAM
Why have a Prayer Support Team?
The mission of the St Thomas More Trust is to foster appreciation for classical learning and critical thinking, and to support those who want to learn more about the Liberal Arts. At a deeper level, we want to help people to maximise their human potential and to both be good and do the good in authentic freedom. To achieve this, people need to know how to wisely apprehend and interrogate all aspects of reality from a solid Christian intellectual tradition.
This intellectual tradition involves not just teaching facts and skills but is also focused on seeking to know the value and nature of things, and on appreciating the value of knowledge for its own sake. We want to help people to use the lenses of truth, goodness, and beauty to evaluate a subject under consideration, and to more clearly see the divine origin of all things and the unity of all truth and reality in God.
In brief, we want people to grow in their relationship with God, with liberal arts as a vehicle to support this. Because this is a spiritual goal, we need spiritual support. We need your prayers: our fruitfulness in this mission will be very dependent on our faithfulness as God's people. Help us stay fruitful, through your faith!
What is involved?
Simply put, we are asking our Prayer Support Team to intentionally pray for the mission of the St Thomas More Trust.
For those who feel led to support us in this special way, we will send an email roughly once a month with a list of four current prayer intentions. We would ask the Prayer Support Team to keep these in mind and commit to devoting some small amount of their regular prayer time, perhaps once a week, to praying for these needs over the course of the month.
We would also ask that once a week, again in their own personal prayers, members of the Prayer Support Team pray the Prayer of St Thomas More for the Board Members, for event participants, and for everyone connected with the mission of the Trust. This prayer is below.
Prayer of St Thomas More, for Trust Board members, supporters, and event participants:
O Lord,
give each of us a mind
that is humble, quiet, peaceable,
patient and charitable,
and a taste of your Holy Spirit
in all our thoughts, words, and deeds.
O Lord,
give each of us a lively faith, a firm hope,
a fervent charity, a love of you.
Take from us all lukewarmness in meditation
and all dullness in prayer.
Give us fervor and delight in thinking of you,
your grace, and your tender compassion toward us.
Give us, good Lord,
the grace to work for
the things we pray for.
Lord, grant each of us a holy heart
that sees always what is true and pure
and is not frightened at the sight of sin,
but creates order wherever it goes.
Grant each of us a heart that knows nothing of boredom, weeping, and sighing.
Let us not be too concerned
with the bothersome thing we each call "myself."
Lord, give us all a sense of humor,
and we will find happiness in life and profit for others.
Amen.
